Wexford Shipwreck
In November of 1913, the worst storm to ever
strike the Great Lakes claimed numerous ships
and hundreds of sailors. In Lake Huron, eight
large steel ships were lost with all hands
during a 16-hour period. In September 2002 the
Canadian steamer Wexford was discovered in lower
Lake Huron at St Joseph’s – the site is
marked for ‘low impact’ heritage diving.

In 2003 a commemorative plaque was placed on the
side of the Grand Bend Yacht club - facing the
boat launch.

- Grand Bend South Beach
Located at the end of either Lake or River Road.
South Beach has historically been a less populated
area. This may be because there are no public
services associated with this beach. The Grand
Bend Marina is located at the end of River Road,
a short walk from the beach. Here you will
find public restrooms, pop machines and a picnic
area. Keep in mind that parking can be a bit
tricky because of the boat launch.
